So, I have been thinking about our challenge this week. Below is our purpose this week -
Purpose this week - to do something that reminds your husband of the youthful wife you once were - maybe it's wearing something you know he loves on you (remember we dressed to please back in those dating days!), go somewhere you both used to enjoy going together - alone!, look at photos together talking, listening, dreaming, holding hands, rubbing his back, and simply paying attention to the amazing husband of your youth! Treasure him this week!
On the way home from work last night, after 8:30 (yes, I had another one of those 13 hour days...yuck!), I popped in an old CD that hubby made me while we were dating 6 years ago. Isn't it amazing how songs can take you back to a certain time and place, happy or sad? Well, this CD was the first one he ever made me, and it was full of Texas Country songs that we loved.
You see, when we first started seriously dating, all of his friends were single. Every last one. They are such a great group of guys, and they embraced me with open arms and took me everywhere they went. I always felt welcome, and they were so nice to me (still are of course). It was so much fun. We would ride in the back seat of Brandon's truck (he always drove, I have no idea why) and I would sit in hubby's lap because we would all be squished in. Brandon and Greg would play Randy Rogers Cd's, and those silly boys would just sing and sing. And hubby would hold me tight. Those were the days. Our usual destination was Red River - the trashiest, dirtiest bar I have EVER been to. EVER. But, I really grew to love it. They had .50 beers, and shots were so cheap. We would spend the whole night there rating the other girls (trust me, there are not very many 10s at Red River), 2 stepping, and just having the best time ever. Then, we would usually go eat something (Taco C comes to mind the most), and we would go back to hubby's car. He would kill me for sharing this - but he would sing the songs on that CD to me the whole way home, and then kiss me goodnight. Ah, I miss those days.
When I got home last night, hubby was tired and cranky. Since I was home so late, he ate cereal for dinner (and a whole bag of rice cakes - haha!) and had a really long day. When I told him about the CD and how I missed all those fun times, he said, "Babe, we had to grow up. We have many more responsibilities and commitments now. We can't just go out drinking and dancing every weekend.". And I thought, "Well, why not?" I know the answer. We only have a few free weekends until the end of the year. And I'm sure those will fill up very quickly. And, we do not have the luxury of sleeping for half a day on Saturday or Sunday, because we have chores, commitments, and church. And, we are out of town as many (if not more) weekends as we are home.
Do you and your husband still do the things that you did years ago when you were newly dating? How do you keep all those fun, warm and fuzzy memories alive? Thinking of them last night really made me miss them. Don't get me wrong, I love our life, and I love being married so much - and I'm sure someday I'll look back and say, "Remember when we first got married, I want to feel like that again" - haha! But, I sure do miss all those fun, carefree times : ) I guess hubby is right, it's just part of growing up!

I remember those days ;o) We would head over to the local Starbucks for a drink and have super deep conversations, about our faith, God, and the future, in his truck!!
Also one of my favorite things were our beach bonfires! He would get everything together and then I'd head to his house after work and from there we'd go to the beach. I loved (still do) watching him get the fire started. Then we'd snuggle under a blanket, and again....have some deep conversations ;o) Thankfully we still do the bonfires that's a necessity for our romantic life! But I do miss just hanging in the parking lot of Starbucks just staring in to each other's eyes ;o)
PS I STILL get butterflies in my tummy when I see my hubby!!!
You're too funny.. but it's so true, oddly as this sounds I miss high school and when my fiance and I started dating we didn't really have manay things to worry about and saving money for things wasn't an issue either. We just had fun and didn't think twice. Now it's paying bills, saving for a wedding and a house, etc. I do love my life now though.. it's hard. I guess you could do little things like listening to old cd's, or do some things every now and then that you used to do to bring that memory back a little. I don't see any harm in going to a similar bar like you described and having a date night :)
thats a song "Youre gonna miss this" ;D
Yes, I remember those days! We were in H.S. I remember meeting him at the baseball game all nervous the first time we hung out. I also think about out first anniversary at Magic Island and when I would go fishing with him all the time.
I love talking with DH about the old days.
Awww...I so enjoyed reading you girls' comments - thank you for sharing, and making me feel better :)
I totally could not agree with you more . . . Somedays I sit back and think of all the "on the fly" things my husband and I used to do . . . One of my favorite things is we would wake up and pack a picnic and go to lake Erie for a few hours and just relax. . . We did not have to worry about anything or anyone . . . As we got married and had a baby so fast, things have changed. Though being a Mom is probably one of the best things in the world, sometimes I think of what we could/would have done if we were not blessed with our son so early on in our marriage. We still do a lot of the 'on the fly' things, now just with a diaper bag in hand and lots of pacifiers and snacks! :)
