Why...

does my husband feel the need to move my stuff!

I was doing laundry yesterday, and I emptied my jeans pocket in the closet. I took out a receipt from lunch, and my access card to my office (looks like a credit card). I set these on the dresser in the closet.

This morning, I went to the dresser to retrieve my access card, and it was gone. I generally spend at least 10 minutes in the morning trying to remember where I put things, or what I was supposed to take to work...etc, so this did not surprise me.

I tell my dear husband that I cannot find my access card and that it was on the dresser with a receipt, and ask him if he could please help me find it.

Then I get "the look". The "uh-oh, I just realized that I did something Michelle isn't going to like and she has discovered it" look.

Jeff: "Um...I threw that away yesterday"
Me: "Why would you do that"
Jeff: "Because I knew it was trash"
Me: "It wasn't trash, that is the way that I get into my office!!!!"
Jeff: "I figured it was from that place you went to the other day"
Me: "What place? What are you talking about?"
Jeff: "Um...that place...um...I think it's still in the blue garbage can outside..."

Then he went out and fished it from the garbage can for me, which I appreciate.

He is going to make me crazy at a young age if he keeps doing this stuff. If he hadn't been home, I would have looked for who knows how long for that thing! I have already lost two, and I couldn't figure out where they had gone - I am pretty sure that I know now....

Mobile Cupcakes!

Look What I made!

I am really getting into baking, and I would really like to share my baking with my family. Unfortunately, my family doesn't live here in Houston. So, for my Edaddy's birthday, I decided to ship him cupcakes.

They look messy, but I don't think he will mind : )

It really was fun putting them together, and I hope that he loves them.

Here's what I did...

I bought a dozen 1/2 pint Kerr mason jars. I wanted the wide mouth kind, but I couldn't find them. I had a very difficult time finding the jars. After 3 grocery stores, I finally bit the bullet and went to Wal Mart. I wondered through all of the food aisles, and failed. Then, I went up and down EVERY aisle trying to find them. FYI - they are by the tupperware stuff. Go figure.

I made half a box of white cake and half a box of devils food cake into cupcakes.

After they cooled, I pulled them apart and made two halfs. I put frosting on the seam and put them back together. Then I squished the cupcake into the jar. This is when the messy part happened. I think that it would not be so sloppy with the wide mouth jars. Then, I added a layer of frosting, and added a cupcake on top. I topped with frosting and sprinkles.

I played with different combos of frosting and cupcakes, just for fun : ) Then, I froze them all for 2 days. It is my hope that they will defrost slowly during shipping. I boxed them up, and off they went on the UPS truck! They should arrive tomorrow, I'll let you know how they make it!

College Football!!! Big 12

So ladies, College Football is about to start!!! This is my favorite time of year, I love staying home, grilling and watching College Football! Of course, I am partial to the Big 12, being an Aggie and all. I am really hoping that we have a better season this year. Here are ESPN's picks for the Big 12 games this weekend -

Iowa State - North Dakota State

Iowa State is the pick.

Baylor - Wake Forest

Baylor is the pick, but not by much. Last year, they lost this game 41-13 at home. This would be an upset, which my husband loves : )

Oklahoma State - Georgia

Oklahoma is the pick, but only by a few points. The Bulldogs have a terrible record on the road, 30-4 with Mark Richt. Ouch.

Illinois - Missouri

Illinois is the pick. This is the annual Arch Rivalry, and Illinois has lost 4 straight!

Nebraska - Florida Atlantic

Nebraska is favored, but quite a bit! Zac Lee is making his first career start with the Cornhuskers. Nebraska has a talented defensive front that will make victory difficult for the Owls.

Oklahoma - BYU

Oklahoma is picked to dominate BYU. They are playing at the Dallas Cowboy's new stadium in Arlington - for its first college game! So exciting! Oklahoma has 9 starters on their defense returning this year - so they will be a powerhouse. I really like Oklahoma, I think they have a great program. (Except when they are playing my Aggies)

TAMU - New Mexico

We are picked to win!!!! We lost our first game of the season last year, and that set a losing tone. We need a better start this year! Whoop!

Texas - Louisiana Monroe

Of course Texas is picked to win. I don't like Texas, of course. My Daddy and I argue about this year after year - that just because I am an Aggie doesn't mean that I have to root against them. Yes, actually it does. Just because they are a Texas school does not mean that I have to support them. Yes, I am bitter. The Longhorns have won their last 9 openers by a margin of 43 points - this game should be no exception.

Kansas - Northern Colorado

Kansas is picked to demolish the Bears.

Texas Tech - North Dakota

Texas Tech is picked to blow them out of the water! It will be interesting to see how Michael Crabtree's absence effects their offense.

Kansas State - Massachusetts

K State is the pick.

Colorado - Colorado State

Colorado is picked to win this Sunday game. CSU is inexperienced at the quarterback position - and are waiting until game day to name their starter.

Sports Highlights - Brett Favre

Hi Ladies!

Here is my first go at sports highlights! Listening to Mike and Mike on the radio this morning inspired me to get interested. Today, they were taking about Brett Favre. I decided to educate myself (and you) on him today.

Brett Favre
Brett Favre, besides being a cutie, has played for Green Bay for what seems like forever. He has now signed with the Vikings, after 2 "retirements". Here's the low down -

Selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons
Traded to the Green Bay Packers on February 10, 1992 in the Draft

Wife + Football = ???

So, my husband loves sports. No sport in particular, pretty much all of them...even golf. So, this football season, I am making a commitment to myself to really follow football. Sure, I like football. I will watch each and every Aggie Football game until the end, and yes, I own a Texans jersey. But, I never really follow the game behind the scenes. I don't understand who is in what conference, and why we want some teams to win one week and lose the next week to better our position. I don't know where our players went to college, and how they ended up playing for our team. I want to have these conversations with my husband so we can have something in common this season. I mean, I can only imagine how excited I would be if he took interest in my All My Children or the book I was reading or something : )

Support

My husband is my full and total support system. It's amazing how in a relationship you can get so angry and frusterated with each other - but - the moment either of you is sad, threatened, or scared you become one bond. That's why I feel so lucky to have Jeff. He won't fold my clothes correctly, or put the toilet seat down, but he will drive me hours to see my grandmother to make sure I am safe and that I don't need him. I guess that is what being married is all about?

Wow. Very powerful words. This verse is now on our fridge, to serve as a constant reminder of how we should treat each other. It's amazing that the words written so very long ago still apply perfectly to how to treat your spouse.

So, that didn't work very long...

So, the "treating hubby better than he treats himself" experiment is over : ( I am pretty proud of myself, I lasted 4 full days. Turns out, they are going to do whatever they want anyway, and that you have to keep some balance. So, that doesn't work. It's okay though, we live and we learn :)

"You Treat Me Better Than I Treat Myself"

So, as you know I decided to try to treat my husband better than he would treat himself. I tried this yesterday, and it made for a great day. I was overly nice a plesant all day, I did not argue with him about anything (that is the hard part), and I let him do whatever he wanted. He watched what he wanted on TV while I cleaned and washed dishes, and then he played with his itunes while he watched TV and I didn't way a word. I'm pretty sure he was testing me since I had been so nice and agreeable all day. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I cannot stand to have the music and the TV on at the same time. I know that is silly - but it drives me crazy. So, day one of the experiment worked...now we shall see how long I can keep it up...

Jeff's Birthday

Today is my husband's birthday! He doesn't like a lot of fuss, but I am going to do everything I can to make it special. We are having dinner with his parents tonight, and then really celebrating on Saturday with our friends at the Eli Young Band Concert!

I just want to make sure he feels very special and celebrated : )

Here come the newlyweds

Jeff and I love this show. We even went to "try out" at the casting last year in Dallas. Turns out, since we didn't know each other's signs, we were not cut out for the show. I am pretty sure that we would be formidable opponents!

Anyway, last night one of the husbands said something to his wife that I woke up thinking about this morning. He said, "You treat me better than I treat myself". Wow. That's huge. I want my husband to think that of me too - but what a huge undertaking! I think that people, especially men, are selfish creatures by nature. So, to treat my husband better than he treats himself will be quite a challenge. I'm not sure how to go about it...

Introduction

Okay ladies, it's 2009. We can have it all - the career, family, social life, sex appeal...the list goes on and on. It's truly the time of equality that the women before us fought so hard for! But I can't help but think...do we really want to have it all?

I am a newlywed. My wonderful husband and I have been married for 72 days. I have discovered that marriage is 90% wonderful and fun, and 10% very hard work. I've also noticed that most of that hard work falls into the wifey category. My husband desribes marriage as "great" and by saying "nothing has really changed". I couldn't disagree more. I think everything changes. As a wife, I feel that I have so many responsibilities and hats to wear...and it's hard!

Now don't get me wrong, I understand that I put these pressures on myself. I am hoping that I am not the only one :) Please join me in my journey to be the best wifey, daughter, sister, friend, daughter-in-law, grand daughter, employee...the list goes on....
